Montecito Water District to get Thomas Fire claims dropped

The Montecito Water District faced claims from individual plaintiffs and Southern California Edison alleging that negligent upkeep of its infrastructure contributed to the mudslide. All the claims are to be dismissed.

Attorneys for the Montecito Water District met opponents in court on Wednesday to discuss ending a lawsuit stemming from the 2017 Thomas Fire and subsequent mudslide. The district would absorb its costs in exchange for dismissal of about 175 claims, with no payment to the plaintiff, according to statements made in court.
