LA street vendors challenge city's restriction authority
“The city is arguing that they have the discretion to determine that vending should not be allowed in certain areas of the city. They seem to be ignoring the plain language of the law, which states cities do have the right to regulate sidewalk vending, but they need to provide objective health and safety concerns that directly relate to vending activity,” said Katherine J.G. McKeon, staff attorney with Public Counsel Law Center.





Attorneys for street vendors challenging sidewalk sales restrictions across Los Angeles say the city doesn’t have complete authority over regulation of their businesses, according to the plaintiffs’ opposition to the city’s demurrer filed on Friday as they prepare to plead their case in front of the judge in March.
