Attorneys slam proposed 'snitch rule' as divisive
In response to criticisms of the rule’s vagueness, members of the committee struggled to reach a general consensus as they continued to make revisions to the proposed Rule 8.3 of the rules of Professional Conduct throughout the hearing.




Multiple attorneys, who mostly remained anonymous in written public comments, criticized a proposed State Bar requirement to report misconduct by their colleagues as leading to compelled speech, decreased civility in the profession and further alienation between the bar and California’s lawyers.
