Judge blocks attorneys from online research of prospective jurors

“Peremptory challenges are a long-standing feature of American law; the Internet is not,” U.S. District Judge Dale S. Fischer wrote. “In other words, peremptory challenges have been exercised for decades without resort to research on the prospective jurors.”

A federal judge blocked attorneys in the prosecution of disgraced Los Angeles politician Mark Ridley-Thomas from conducting online research on prospective jurors, finding there is no reason to deviate from the tried and true methods of voir dire questions and peremptory challenges.
