Senate confirms another judge for Southern District

Superior Court Judge James E. Simmons Jr. is the second nominee approved this week for the federal court in San Diego.

San Diego County Superior Court Judge James E. Simmons Jr. was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Thursday afternoon to an Article III vacancy on the Southern District of California court.

Meanwhile, Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin, D-IL, signaled that he may be setting up a showdown over whether to keep the “blue slip” process for district court judges.
