The Internal Revenue Service returned more than $1.5 million to a former client of disgraced attorney Michael J. Avenatti, who stole the money to pay his law firm’s taxes.
Avenatti, a once high-flying Orange County plaintiffs’ lawyer, is serving 14 years in federal prison and must pay $7 million in restitution to four victims. He has appealed the length of his sentence.
