US judge enjoins 1999 state gun safety law, citing Bruen

“This is the first time a California state gun law has been struck down under the Bruen test,” said Chuck Michel, a lawyer for gun rights groups. “That’s big.”

A federal judge in Santa Ana granted a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a state gun safety law, ruling that Californians are entitled to arm and protect themselves with the latest firearm models.

U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney stayed his Monday order for 14 days to allow the state to file an appeal. Boland et al. v. Bonta, 22-CV-01421 (C.D. Cal., filed Aug. 1, 2022).
