Complaints against judges rise sharply, especially in family court
The figures show the Commission on Judicial Performance had 127 pending cases at the beginning of 2022, but 162 at the end of the year. It disposed of 1,385 complaints last year, the most of any year in the past decade and likely the most ever. But it also received 1,414 complaints, also likely a record.




The Commission on Judicial Performance has been busy. According to the agency’s annual report released Tuesday, complaints about judges rose 13% last year, and it ended the year with 28% more pending cases than it started with.
The latest annual report comes amid years of intense scrutiny of the agency that disciplines judges for misconduct. Not surprisingly, some of its chief critics still have questions.
