Sacramento County court strikes deal with court reporters

The agreement reached Tuesday includes signing bonuses for newly hired court reporters, retention bonuses for current court reporters, and a finder’s fee for court employees who refer new court reporters to Sacramento County court.

The shortage of court reporters has been a growing concern across the nation, but the Sacramento County Superior Court has struck a deal with the United Public Employees Union in an effort to remedy that issue.

“This agreement will support our ongoing efforts to recruit and retain court reporters whose work is critical in documenting the verbatim record of court proceedings,” Presiding Judge Michael G. Bowman said in a statement.
