California communities oppose challenge to use of fire retardant
In addition to the municipal intervenors, California-based organizations including the Rural County Representatives of California, the California Forestry Association, the California Farm Bureau and California Women for Agriculture joined the motion filed earlier this month.




As California faces increasingly long wildfire seasons, several communities throughout the state have moved to intervene in a federal lawsuit in Montana regarding the environmental impacts of using air-dropped flame retardant. If the plaintiffs prevail, the U.S. Forest Service could be enjoined from dropping flame retardant for more than two years, which the prospective intervenors say would leave them vulnerable to fire damage.
