DAs can continue challenge to prisons’ early release scheme
The dispute involves early release rules the Department of Corrections instituted on May 1, 2021. It cited its authority under Proposition 57, a 2016 voter-passed initiative that made it easier for some inmates to gain early parole.




A group of 44 district attorneys can continue their challenge to rules allowing early release of prison inmates, a Sacramento County judge ruled. But in a pair of tentative rulings ahead of a Wednesday afternoon hearing, the judge said he would not issue a requested summary judgment.
