State drops caste bias action against 2 Cisco employees
Suhag Shukla, executive director of the Hindu American Foundation, which has opposed designation of caste as a protected class in discrimination matters, said in a statement Monday that the organization is “thrilled” about this latest development. The foundation filed a motion to intervene in the case, accusing the department of First Amendment violations by characterizing the caste system as an inherent part of the Hindu religion.




The California Civil Rights Department dismissed legal action against two Cisco Systems Inc. employees accused of discriminating against a former co-worker based on his family’s caste identification in India.
The department will continue to pursue its case against the San Jose based tech company. A mediation conference in that matter is scheduled for June 8 on the court docket.
