Earthjustice says it is settling suit over small refineries’ pollution
The settlement would have the South Coast Air Quality Management District “revise their regulations to remove the exemptions, which have allowed at least three refineries in the region to operate without installing real-time sensors and air monitors,” Earthjustice Senior Attorney Oscar Espino-Padron said.




Earthjustice and the South Coast Air Quality Management District are moving to settle a lawsuit accusing the air regulator of exempting smaller petroleum refineries in a vast swath of Southern California from state air monitoring requirements.
Earthjustice is working with the air district to present a settlement agreement to the court in May, said Senior Attorney Oscar Espino-Padron.
