Inaccurate bar discipline data needs improvement, auditor says

External investigators and prosecutors are used in cases where the State Bar has a conflict. “We found multiple errors and omissions in these data, impeding the State Bar’s ability to effectively monitor the status of these external investigations,” State Auditor Grant Parks wrote in a report.

The State Bar needs to improve its external investigation data system after an audit report found that nearly 30% of the bar’s disciplinary cases handled by outside contractors were not closed in a timely manner.
