Extension on lawsuits for sex abuse could cost state millions
AB 1547 would open a one-year window in the statute of limitations for civil cases arising from sexual assaults that took place in state or county juvenile detention facilities. It seeks to build on a 2019 law that created a three-year window in sexual abuse cases.




The state could be on the hook for millions of dollars in damages under a bill passed by the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.
