Senate Democrats switch strategy to move judge nominees

The committee approved the nominations of Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Wesley L. Hsu, a former federal prosecutor, and Monica Ramirez Almadani, a former ACLU attorney who is president of Public Counsel, both named to the Central District of California.

Senate Democrats switched strategy on Thursday and allowed votes on President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees who have bipartisan support.

It was a change by Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin, D-IL, who has avoided committee votes for a couple of months in the absence of U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-CA, who is out sick with shingles.
