Interior Department must face suit over oil drilling law

The Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit last fall alleging that the Interior Department has not been adequately reviewing the development and production plans related to exploring oil and gas deposits located in federal waters as mandated by the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act.

The U.S. Department of Interior must face an environmental lawsuit accusing it of failing to comply with federal offshore oil drilling regulations, a U.S. judge in Los Angeles ruled this week.

Attorneys for the government tried to convince the court that the plaintiff did not have standing to bring a lawsuit stating procedural claims against a federal agency.
