Judges advised to check canons before sending courtwide emails
Presiding judges, and others, were advised by the Supreme Court Committee on Judicial Ethics Opinions “to be especially careful about the appearance of impartiality when forwarding emails at the request of one side of the criminal or civil bar.”




Judges in supervisory positions may send court-wide emails suggested by private interest groups, other government agencies and bar associations as long as they adhere to the canons against political activity, pecuniary interests or undermining confidence in judicial impartiality, the state Supreme Court’s ethics committee advised Monday.
