Expert rejects claim Juul aimed to wean smokers off tobacco

During the first bellwether trial over Juul’s electronic cigarettes, both parties’ lawyers thoroughly questioned the first expert witness of the case: Neil E. Grunberg, a member of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco.

Counsel for the San Francisco Unified School District attempted Wednesday to dismantle the narrative of Altria Group Inc.’s attorneys: that when the company acquired Juul Labs Inc. in 2018, the nicotine giant improved its behavior and was earnestly trying to help cigarette smokers kick their habit.
