Microsoft/Activision deal may be dead, but FTC litigation presses on

Microsoft has vowed to appeal the decision by British antitrust authorities. But Stephen Calkins, a professor at Wayne State University, said in a phone interview that “there’s a good chance this kills the deal.”

The Federal Trade Commission’s administrative complaint to block Microsoft Corp.’s acquisition of Santa Monica-based video game developer Activision Blizzard Inc. is expected to move forward even though British antitrust authorities blocked the deal. But it might not matter, despite the fact that the Competition and Markets Authority in London, or CMA, ruled on narrower grounds than the FTC’s complaint alleges.
