SEC says 2 men preyed on church members for investor scheme

Brett M. Bartlett and his father-in-law Scott A. Miller are accused of making false and misleading statements to investors, and misusing a portion of the funds for personal expenses to finance their lavish lifestyle.

The Securities and Exchange Commission charged two men, along with their respective companies, with fraud after they raised more than $20 million from investors in what officials have described as an elaborate confidence scheme.
