Uber security chief gets probation, fine for hiding breach

U.S. District Judge William H. Orrick remarked that he gave Joseph Sullivan a lighter sentence than the 15 months in prison the government sought because the case is the first of its kind. But future similar offenses will result in prison time, he said.

Uber Technologies Inc.’s former security chief was given a sentence of three years’ probation, 200 hours of community service and a $50,000 fine after a jury found him guilty of concealing a 2016 data breach that compromised the information of 57 million users.
