After 40 years on the bench, U.S. District Judge Anthony W. Ishii of the Eastern District of California retired on April 30, according to an email from the court.
Ishii was appointed to the federal bench by President Bill Clinton in 1997 and was the first Asian American federal judge in the Eastern District. There are now four district court vacancies in California.
