New wells violate law paused by 2024 referendum, lawsuit says
The plaintiff alleged that the wells will be in a health-and-safety buffer zone designated by Senate Bill 1137, which Gov. Gavin Newsom signed last year. But the law is on hold pending the outcome of a referendum on the 2024 ballot.




The California Geologic Energy Management Division inappropriately approved 21 new oil and gas wells without performing the required environmental review, the Center for Biological Diversity alleged in a lawsuit filed Thursday.
