Massage school says state council exceeds its authority

The California Massage Therapy Council is “a private nonprofit public benefit corporation” but its voluntary certification program has become mandatory in so many cities that it now has a monopoly with too much power, stated a lawsuit filed by San Diego based attorney James C. Stevens.

A Los Angeles massage school sued the California Massage Therapy Council, claiming it is not a governmental agency and is improperly acting as a gatekeeper for the profession.
