Revised budget proposes cut to Judicial Branch funding

Nearly $21 million of the courts’ lost revenue will come out of an “ability to pay” fund designed to backfill declining fine and fee revenues, according to a summary the governor’s office shared.

The judicial branch lost almost $51 million in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s May budget revision. But Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero appeared to be relieved the cuts weren’t worse with California facing a nearly $32 billion deficit.
