$3.5M fee approved for lawyers who sued Huntington Beach
“The Kennedy lawsuit was the catalyst that changed long-standing California law,” Los Angeles Judge Michael L. Stern wrote in his order awarding Kennedy’s attorneys $2.5 million in fees plus an enhancement multiplier of 1.4 for the quality of representation and difficulty of the case. A 4th District Court of Appeal panel ruled it was justified.




Huntington Beach’s legal battles over affordable housing took another turn when a 4th District Court of Appeal panel unanimously affirmed a $3.5 million attorney fee award to an affordable housing advocacy organization that sued the city, alleging fair housing law violations.
City attorney Michael E. Gates said in an email Friday that the Orange county seaside town will consider an appeal to the state supreme court.
