Taco Bell files petition to cancel ‘Taco Tuesday’ trademark

A Taco John’s franchisee in Minnesota came up with “Taco Twosday” to promote two tacos for 99 cents on a slow day of the week, and the trademark was approved by the USPTO in 1989.

Taco Bell filed legal petitions with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to invalidate the “Taco Tuesday” trademark held by the Wyoming-based restaurant chain Taco John’s.

Everyone should have the right to use the phrase legally, and Taco John’s should not have sole ownership over the trademark, the Irvine-based Taco Bell said in a statement.
