State seeks end to monitoring of prisons for solitary confinement compliance
“This case should be over,” Deputy Attorney General Sarah M. Brattin said. “Nearly eight years ago this statewide class action settled and CDCR ended its practice of housing inmates in security housing units indefinitely based solely on gang status.”




Attorneys for California and for prison inmates debated before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday over whether changes that ended long-term solitary confinement were substantial enough to warrant the ending of settlement compliance monitoring of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
