Expansion of sex abuse law, other bills remain alive

The annual deadline for bills to pass fiscal committees combines life-and-death drama with some of the dullest hearings held each year.

The full California Assembly will vote on a bill that would remove the statute of limitations in civil cases stemming from childhood sexual abuse.

AB 452 was one of scores of bills to pass legislative appropriations committees on Thursday, one day before a deadline that would have killed them for the year. So did bills on remote hearings, housing, wrongful convictions and international arbitration.
