Volunteer wins $6.8M for no-warning rescue dog attack

“What we learned at trial was that there were multiple instances where [the dog] was reported to have bitten people or to have tried to bite people, or was lunging at his cage, or acting aggressive in some other manner that would have made him a dog that they wouldn’t let volunteers walk,” said Ivan Puchalt, who represented the plaintiff.

A jury awarded $6.8 million to a volunteer at Los Angeles Animal Services who sustained bone and arterial damage when a German shepherd viciously mauled her. The jury found the city's gross negligence violated its own policies by not warning volunteers of the dog's behavioral problems.
