San Francisco sued over race, gender based free cash program

Mayor London Breed defended the idea of a race based guaranteed income program in a news release when she announced it in September 2020.

Californians for Equal Rights Foundation challenged the constitutionality of two San Francisco guaranteed income programs in a lawsuit calling the cash payments from the city illegal because they are based on the race and gender of the recipients.

The city program cited by counsel for the foundation calls for monthly payments of at least $1,000 to pregnant women who were residents of the city and were of either Black or Pacific Island desc...
