Semiconductor firm says rival is using patent litigation to drive it from market
Rudy Y. Kim, an attorney for Realtek Semiconductor, cited the results of one study that showed that lawsuits brought by "patent assertion entities" resulted in half a trillion dollars of lost wealth for litigation targets between 1990 and 2010




Realtek Semiconductor Corp. sued rival MediaTek Inc. in federal court Tuesday, accusing MediaTek of conspiring with a third party to file costly and frivolous patent lawsuits in the U.S. to squeeze Realtek out of the market.
Realtek and MediaTek, both based in Taiwan, manufacture integrated circuit chips and other semiconductor devices used in smartphones and tablets. MediaTek's public relations department did not respond to an inquiry for comment.
