San Francisco public defenders’ case backlog challenge is revived

San Francisco Public Defender Manohar Raju’s lawsuit, filed on behalf of a group of taxpayers, seeks to compel the court to prioritize criminal cases over civil cases. The court says they go to trial in a timely manner.

San Francisco public defenders staged the first of eight sit-in protests on Friday on the steps of the Hall of Justice one day after a court of appeal preserved the office’s lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the backlog of criminal trials.
