FTC feared Activision deal would close before review, experts say

“This move suggests that the agency believes (and has some evidence) that unless it acts, the deal might close in the short term,” Daniel Francis, former deputy director of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition, commented.

The Federal Trade Commission likely felt speed was of the essence if it wanted time to review the acquisition deal between Microsoft Inc. and Activision Blizzard Inc., because it was ready to close, legal experts said Wednesday.
