FTC accused of delaying cancer breakthrough by blocking merger

The organizations and attorneys general filed briefs this week before the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which is considering Illumina and Grail’s appeal of the FTC’s divestiture order.

A group of Republican attorneys general, Hispanic doctors, law professors and other groups are siding with San Diego-based biotechnology company Illumina Inc. in its battle with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission over whether it can acquire a company that makes blood tests to detect early-stage cancer.
