Marriott sued over extra fees for worker safety

Junk fees — surprise charges that drive up purchase prices — cost consumers billions of dollars every year. Bills against them have been introduced in Congress and the California Legislature.

Marriott International is violating business and consumer laws with a surcharge it imposes on guests to comply with a Los Angeles ordinance intended to protect hotel workers, a lawsuit alleges.
