2 bellwether clergy abuse cases chosen for February trial
Since the Legislature passed Assembly Bill 218 in 2019 and extended the statute of limitations for alleged victims of child sexual abuse to sue up to age 40, thousands of lawsuits have been filed against the Catholic dioceses in the state.




A Los Angeles County judge has selected the first two bellwether clergy sexual abuse cases for a consolidated litigation in Southern California, one against the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and one against the Diocese of Orange, to go to trial in February.
