L’Oreal collects data when users try makeup, suit says

The complaint, filed in Los Angeles on behalf of an Illinois resident, accuses the cosmetics company of violating Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act, enacted in 2008.

A proposed federal class action was filed against L’Oreal USA Inc. by a consumer who claimed the cosmetics company’s online “virtual try-on” feature, which requires photos of users’ faces, illegally collects and stores biometric information.
