Assembly committee OKs State Bar bill that carries no fee increase

“The Supreme Court has the ability to raise fees should they decide to do so, but this is our attempt to provide for greater accountability of the bar,” said Sen. Thomas J. Umberg, D-Santa Ana, on Tuesday.

The latest version of a State Bar bill that would keep annual base licensing fees at $390 for active California attorneys in 2024 cleared the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

Under SB 40, inactive attorneys’ fees will also stay the same: $97.40.
