Pre-arraignment bail to end for some offenses in LA County
Presiding Judge Samantha P. Jessner, announced in a remote news conference Tuesday afternoon that, starting Oct. 1, police officers and sheriff’s deputies will cite suspects or book and release them for most theft and property damage crimes.

Pre-arraignment bail for people accused of low-level felonies and misdemeanors will soon end in Los Angeles County, the presiding judge announced Tuesday.
A lawsuit filed by civil rights organizations to permanently end cash bail continues in the court, however, though the judge in that case issued a preliminary injunction that went into effect on May 24. A crime victims group is trying to intervene in the case.
