49ers to settle data breach lawsuit with 21,000 plaintiffs

The San Francisco football team maintained it was not liable for negligence and breach of implied contract.

The San Francisco 49ers and 21,000 of its employees and fans who claimed their information was exposed in a data breach asked a federal judge Thursday for preliminary approval of a settlement estimated at $10 million.

The agreement aims to resolve any claims of harm stemming from a five-day ransomware attack in February 2022. The plaintiffs claimed the team did not notify them of the breach for over six months.
