Judge erred in cutting fees over ‘contingency-fee risk’
The opinion regards attorney fees in a partial victory in Humboldt County Superior Court for plaintiff Laurance Iloff, who successfully complained against his former employer, Bridgeville Properties Inc., and its CEO, Cynthia LaPaille, for unpaid wages for himself and his then-wife, Wednesday’s decision said.




An appellate court panel unanimously found Wednesday that a superior court judge erred in reducing an attorney fee award based on a lack of contingency fee risk, among other reasons. The panel ruled that the Humboldt County judge improperly applied a negative multiplier to the fee award, and remanded the case for recalculation of the fee.
The unpublished decision from the 1st District Court of Appeal did not identify the lower court judge....
