State AG must remain as defendant in challenge to LA bail

Attorney General Rob Bonta’s demurrer argued that the plaintiffs failed to establish grounds to name him as a defendant, and that his office doesn’t have any control over the bail schedule. The judge disagreed.

A Los Angeles judge on Tuesday overruled Attorney General Rob Bonta’s demurrer to a lawsuit seeking to end pre-arraignment cash bail in the county, keeping the state’s top law enforcement official as a defendant in the case.
