The bar exam benefits test preppers and isn’t indicative of qualified attorneys

The Portfolio Bar Exam would not offer a free pass or easier path to candidates. It would instead be a more rigorous process designed to protect the people of California.

The bar exam is big business. Test-takers in California spend an estimated $20 million a year on commercial bar preparation courses. They pay another $8.5 million to help defray the State Bar's costs of administering and grading the exam.
