ACLU, US, propose to settle class on separated families
“This settlement is not about monetary compensation,” said Lee Gelernt, ACLU’s lead attorney in the lawsuit. He added that cash settlements will be included in several separate lawsuits regarding similar separation complaints, and the attorney fees for the class action are being negotiated.




A non-monetary settlement between the ACLU and federal government was proposed Monday that would give families who were separated when they crossed the border without permission extensive reunification efforts, medical and housing assistance and an opportunity for future permanent legal U.S. residency.
