Senators warmly receive nominee for US court in Sacramento

“You present a dilemma for me. You seem like a pretty qualified guy,” U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC., told Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk E. Sherriff.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk E. Sherriff, who has led the Fresno and Bakersfield offices of the U.S. attorney’s office since 2015, almost sailed through his nomination hearings at the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday without incident.

There was just one thing that nagged at several Senate Republicans: Sherriff’s annual contributions, since 2019, of $120 a year to the American Civil Liberties Union.
