Orange County judge denies cities' challenge to LA bail policy

Judge William D. Claster also sustained the Los Angeles County Superior Court's demurrer, concluding the plaintiffs did not assert a viable cause of action, but gave them leave to amend their complaint.

An Orange County judge on Monday denied a motion from more than two dozen cities for a preliminary injunction of Los Angeles County's zero bail policy, which took effect in October.
The lawsuit in Orange County is a "backdoor challenge" to an injunction to the countywide bail schedule issued by a judge in Los Angeles, Orange County Superior Court Judge William D. Claster wrote in his ruling issued Dec. 11.
