Cheese company accused of illegal medical leave policy

Attorneys for the plaintiffs, Michael Kent and Emily Pincin, partners at Kent Pincin in Redondo Beach, said in an interview Thursday that the policy on its face violates the Family Medical Leave Act.

Hilmar Cheese Co. Inc. has been accused of “systemic illegal employment practices” that discriminate against those with disabilities by not providing job protection when they are on medical leave, according to a second amended complaint filed in Merced county Superior Court.

The parties are set to go to trial on Sept. 3, 2024.
