23andMe says careless users were source of credential attacks

Amid moves to consolidate lawsuits over information breach, 23andMe says it was not the source of credentials that were attacked, while another lawsuit joins the pile.

23andMe Inc., the genealogy company, was hit with another proposed class action in federal court in San Francisco as fallout from claims of an October 2023 data breach continues.

The latest complaint, filed on Dec. 29, accuses the company of “blaming its customers” in its Dec. 5 news release announcing the findings of its investigation.
